Rethinking Florida fashion
Los Angeles fashion designer David Tupaz doesn't make clothes for ho-hum days.
He makes them for red carpet events, once-in-a-lifetime occasions and, now, Chillounge Night in St. Petersburg.
Tupaz is the headline designer for the outdoor event's fashion show on Saturday. He'll present about 30 pieces from his fall collection of resort wear and couture designs. Imagine clothing for lounging on a yacht in Monte Carlo, with lots bright colors, hats and glasses. For the finale? One of his signature wedding gowns.
"It's going to be a wow moment,'' he said.
The catwalk event is a highlight of the South Beach-style party with lounge chairs, daybeds and a Brazilian samba parade. Produced by Brandi Kamenar, the show also will feature pieces from local designer Marisu Miranda.
Tupaz, 50, started designing couture in the mid 1980s and moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1997. His clients have included various Hollywood celebrities, from Kris Kardashian to Liz Shatner to Oscar-winning director Keiko Ibi.

Hit the West Orange Trail for a day of sight seeing and fitness along one of Orlando’s many paved paths. The West Orange Trail is 22 miles and runs from Oakland to Apopka, but you don’t have to ride the entire course to enjoy a romantic trip. 3. Go canoeing.
Head out to Wekiwa (pronounced Wekiva) Springs State Park and enjoy Old Florida from the comfort of a canoe. Available runs range from 1 hour to 8 hours long and rentals are available. Remember the bug spray – there’s nothing romantic about scratching at mosquito bites all night.
4. See a movie at Enzian.
There are several movie theaters in Orlando that offer dinner and a movie, but only one offers the unique charm of the Enzian. You probably won’t catch the latest blockbuster release here, as the Enzian specializes in independents and cult classics, but you can spend the movie cozied up in a retro couch with your sweetheart. You can also share a gourmet pizza and a glass of wine if you want a change of pace from popcorn and fountain pop.
